Cory’s path was anything but conventional. He grew up in inner-city Cleveland, Ohio, moved through more than ten schools as a kid, and spent his early years pulled between the streets and the classroom. He was headstrong and independent — driven by his own decisions rather than the crowd — and even then, he was the one always talking about business, self-improvement, and building a better life for the people around him.
The turning point came on a school bus. As a teenager in the E-City program run by Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U.) in Cleveland, Cory was flashing a handful of cash to impress the other kids when a man named Paul Moss stopped him. "You think that’s money?" Moss said — pulling out a black card, showing him what real success looked like, and offering him an honest way to earn it. Cory took the challenge, went to work in Moss’s insurance agency, and started at the bottom. That mentorship set the course for everything that followed.
He built from there. Cory has personally written more than $20 million in gross premium and led the development of multiple high-performing agencies — including one he built from scratch, producing over $1.2 million in gross written premium in under a year as the sole producer. Earlier, he ranked among the top three producers within three months of joining a leading firm and was named "Agent of the Year" three times at another.
Today, that journey shapes how he leads. Cory built Cory Washington & Co. to do more than place policies — to give business owners the protection and guidance to become who they set out to be before circumstances got in the way. His approach is direct, accountable, and personally invested in every client’s outcome.
Away from the business, Cory is grounded by family. He met his wife, Denique, at nineteen, and they have built a life together ever since. Caring, strong, and steadying, she is the bright light and heartbeat of everything he does. Together they are raising their son, Cory Washington III — C3 for short. The persistence that first brought Cory and Denique together is the same drive he brings to his work every day.
